Case Study - Riverside Housing Association

About Riverside Housing Association

As one of the UK’s leading Registered Social Landlords (RSL) and with 80 years of experience Riverside Housing Association fully deserve their Social Landlord of the Year Award status for the last two years, providing support and affordable housing to people of all ages and circumstances throughout England. Riverside own and manage over 50,000 properties and employ over 2,500 people across the UK.

CR and Riverside

CR within a RSL is to be expected for an organisation with an inbuilt social connection. Riverside demonstrate a leading approach by not only actively managing but beginning to use CR as driver for innovation, differentiation and to robustly define their strong social values.

Why CR?

As RSL’s begin to mature and understand their unique position almost sitting on public and private sector fence, CSR is beginning to strategically guide improved performance whilst celebrating the strong social understanding inherent in the housing association sector.

CR in practice

In November 2009 Riverside produced their second Corporate Social Responsibility Annual Report (2009/2010) listing numerous initiatives on many comprehensive and innovative projects delivering substantial environmental and social outputs including their Passenger Mileage Incentive scheme, £184k saving through use of video conferencing and sustainable buildings awards.

The Benefits

As a charitable Industrial and Provident Society Riverside is tasked with delivering more than mere financial returns, utilising CR to maintain a commercially productive balance between economic, social and environmental management. Their list of business award successes is testament to their ability to deliver tangible success across all three areas reinforcing an already enviable brand position to both consumers and professional partners.
