Capita secures two year extension to continue expanding Constructionline

The Department of Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) has awarded a two-year extension to CAPITA Business Services to run the UK’s largest register of pre-qualified contractors and consultants, Constructionline.

The Government first awarded CAPITA the contract to run Constructionline when the service originally launched in 1999 and this latest extension ensures it will operate the service until 2014.

In 2009, Constructionline saw its largest ever intake of new suppliers and clients during a twelve month period.

More than 2,000 new contractors and 200 buyers – including Housing Hartlepool, NHS Forth Valley, and the Dulux Trade Contract Partnership – adopted the service last year. Usage of the system has also risen with a 23 per cent increase in the number of clients creating tender lists in the final three months of 2009, marking a second successive quarter of growth – a sign of growing confidence in the sector.

The service – which now has over 18,000 registered suppliers and 2,000 clients – re-launched its system last year following a £1 million investment.

Philip Prince, sales and marketing director from Constructionline, said: “An increased focus on efficiency savings among clients means many have been improving the way they buy services from the construction sector. “Rising levels of insolvencies among smaller firms has also led to risk management being very important to many of our existing and new clients in particular this has been a key factor in attracting many new major contractors to Constructionline.

“Meanwhile suppliers continue to look for new routes into the public sector and for a chance to capitalise on the growth of opportunities for refurbishment and maintenance work where new orders have increased over the past six months.”
