Constructionline, with support from Hill, Bibby Financial Services, The Health & Safety Laboratory, The Crown Commercial Service and The Prince’s Trust, held its flagship Showcase Meet the Buyer event at Twickenham Stadium, HQ for English rugby. The event played host to more than 900 construction businesses, who attended to meet with more than 60 exhibiting organisations to talk about potential business opportunities worth more than £50 million.
Constructionline’s Managing Director, John Edmunds explains, “As the UK’s most connected and progressive, procurement and supply chain management service, we’re all about helping businesses connect, gain insight, build knowledge and become better equipped to achieve more. The annual Showcase Meet the Buyer event is our opportunity to promote new opportunities on a national scale. It was great to see hundreds of businesses use this event to build valuable business relationships and share their insight.”
Emma Jones, HMG’s SME Crown Representative was inspired by the level of networking opportunities available, she told us, “My job is to help the government meet its target to spend £1 in every £3 with small businesses by 2020. Events like this definitely contribute to that agenda. One of the most difficult things for small businesses is to get access to buyers. So to offer that opportunity in an easy way and in one place is inspired.”
The opportunity to network with the UK’s leading construction businesses remains at the heart and soul of Constructionline’s Meet the Buyer events, with the Showcase event offering a unique platform for businesses of all sizes to come together in one place to discuss the year’s most valuable contracts.
With more than £50 million worth of projects available, the 2016 Showcase offered more opportunities than ever before for business development. With main contractors like Hill, Kier Group, Wates Group, VolkerWessels UK, VINCI Construction and Sir Robert McAlpine attending alongside public sector authorities such as Hackney Borough Council, The Infrastructure & Projects Authority and Highways England all aspects of the industry were well represented.
According to Michael Thomlinson, Head of Strategic Procurement & Supply Chain at Hill, “Today’s event gives us an opportunity to connect with our supply chain, which is really powerful for us. We get the chance to have one-to-one conversations with lots of people, something we couldn’t do in our normal environment.”
Michael continued, “Constructionline’s Meet the Buyer events give us the ability to engage with suppliers that actually want to work with us. They give us a unique platform to sell Hill into their businesses, a revolutionary thing for us.”
Sam Mallinson, General Manager at Interfix Supplies, one of the many exhibitors in the Supplier Zone, used the Showcase to build their network of construction contacts, he said, “We always find the Showcase event very important for us to attend. There are so many sub-contractors and other smaller contractors who we would never manage to engage with.” Tony Pridham, Business Development Manager from Interfix agrees, “This year’s Showcase offered an invaluable opportunity to make the right connections with prospective clients and gain exposure to our industry sector.”
Jim Deans, Business Development Manager from BA Systems thought, “This Meet the Buyer event was the best one yet. We got to speak to buyers that we haven’t met before and learn about their contract requirements. It gives us a real advantage in the tender process.”
Using its wealth of industry experience, Constructionline builds value for its members by helping them optimise performance, minimise risk and realise opportunity. In helping businesses achieve more, Constructionline introduced a range of additional features at our Showcase Meet the Buyer event to create new opportunities for everyone in attendance.
“Growing from strength to strength, our Meet the Buyer events offer much more than just chance to network with buyers. We’re committed to adding value in as many ways as possible, with even more opportunities for the industry’s supply chain to grow their business and realise their full potential,” said Managing Director, John Edmunds.
At the Showcase, delegates were introduced to Constructionline’s industry partners. Bibby Financial Services attended to share their knowledge and offer financial support for attending businesses. E-tender expert, Millstream also exhibited to provide advice for SMEs on tendering with the public sector.
What’s more, Constructionline offered delegates the chance to network with like-minded contractors, consultants and material suppliers in the Supplier Zone and gave exclusive access to workshops held by market leading organisations on key industry topics such as health & safety compliance and SME invoice payment solutions.
You’ll have more opportunities to network with hundreds of construction businesses at one of Constructionline’s many planned Meet the Buyer events and the chance to gain advice on hot topics from industry experts at the Connect learning and development seminars – new to 2017.
