Operation Magnify launched to stop illegal working in construction

A campaign to stop illegal working in the construction industry has been announced.

‘Operation Magnify’, the name given to the initiative, will see Home Office enforcement officers target businesses which employ or exploit illegal migrant workers.

The announcement was made by Immigration Minister James Brokenshire, after he hosted a roundtable event, which comprised construction industry leaders from the public and private sectors, as well as trade associations, including Construction Industry Council and the Chartered Institute of Building.

These organisations spent the session discussing strategies to end illegal working in the sector and their own experiences of illegal working in construction. They also learnt about the steps the government are taking to overcome the issues.
