Launched in April last year, the Government’s Red Tape Challenge website gives businesses, the public, and the voluntary and community sector the opportunity to share their views, comments and ideas on what regulations should stay, be improved, or be scrapped altogether. Regulations are published on the website on a thematic basis; and of over 1200 regulations considered so far, over 50% will be scrapped or improved.
From 12th January to 16th February, the Red Tape Challenge spotlight is shining on over 200 Housing & Construction regulations. This theme covers building regulations that set standards for the design and construction of buildings, and construction related regulations on contracts and products – and they want to hear the construction industry’s experience of dealing with these on a day-to-day basis.
Over the next month, you have the opportunity to share your views on the regulatory and administrative burdens that affect you – helping the Government identify areas for change. Is there overly excessive or complicated legislation that is acting as a barrier to business and investment? Are the systems behind these regulations running in the most effective and light touch way? Could regulation in this area be smarter or simplified?
