ISO 45001, the first global Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) management system standard, has now been published and will come into effect at the end of the year. The new standard is intended to replace BS OHSAS 18001 and has recently had its first update focusing on the consultation process. The main updates to the original standard are as follows: There will now be a four-month period which will allow for translations if required, and a ballot to be held From the 19th May the draft standard will be available for review at no cost on the British Standards Institution’s (BSI) online draft review system The results of the ballot will determine the next stage. Publication of the final standard is still not finalised. It is now said that it could now be as early as November 2017 (if no FDIS is required), and as late as Q2 2018 if FDIS is required Businesses wanting to keep up to date with ISO 45001 progress and the best way to deal with it when it comes into play should regularly check the Acclaim website. Preparing for the switch Acclaim Accreditation has partnered with Health and Safety Laboratories to bring you the Safety Climate Tool, which has been identified as the most accessible platform for businesses wanting to achieve the ISO 45001 standard. The online tool is essentially an anonymous survey, which enables management to gain a better understanding of employees’ and suppliers’ attitudes and perceptions of health and safety in key areas of its business. The resulting report will provide the senior management team with an honest and open reflection of the company’s current attitude toward health and safety. Find out more information on the platform and how it can help your business. What is SSIP? Our health and safety specialists, Acclaim, are certified to assess and award SSIP Deemed to Satisfy, which is then shown on the Constructionline platform.
