Hill adopts Constructionline to reduce risk in their supply chain

Hill is one of the country’s top house builders, specialising in developing homes of distinction across London and the South East. Innovation, design excellence, quality build and respect for the local environment are key to their success, which has been recognised through several major industry awards.

In February 2015, Hill adopted Constructionline to simplify their pre-qualification process for all new and existing sub-contractors.

MANAGING RISK

House builders like Hill, often have a wide and varied supply chain covering multiple trades and business types. Managing risk across a diverse range of suppliers can be a challenge; ensuring they hold the right insurances, accreditations and are financially stable requires a dedicated full time support team.

Constructionline, gathers, assesses and monitors suppliers’ information in real time, giving house builders the security that their supply chain is not only compliant to industry and government standards but also peace of mind that they have reduced their exposure to risks in the process.

Michael Thomlinson, Head of Strategic Procurement & Supply Chain at Hill said “One of the key advantages of using Constructionline is that is provides a rigorous checking process, which ensures that the companies we employ are competent and qualified, so that our standards are uncompromised. This is because Constructionline checks the important information such as insurance documentation, accreditations, financial and health and safety data for us.”

REDUCING COST FOR THE INDUSTRY

Hill is a growing business, expanding into new areas of the UK, which means they require new regional supply chain members. Constructionline run national and regional Meet the Buyer events, Hill-specific Supplier Engagement events and also manage ‘expressions of interest’ from contractors who are keen to work with Hill, enabling them to easily engage with the companies they require in an efficient way.

Michael says, “In addition to the support with events, Constructionline gives us access to their entire database of 24,000 vetted companies. This will be an important asset as we continue to grow.”

SUPPORTING INDUSTRY BEST PRACTICE

As a part of their commitment to support industry initiatives and promote best practice, Hill is a member of the Main Contractor Advisory Steering Group – a committee of procurement professionals from the UK’s leading major contracting and house building organisations – set up by Constructionline to discuss recent changes in legislation and current issues in procurement and supply chain management.

In 2014, the members of the Advisory Steering Group made a vow to streamline prequalification and health and safety assessment for their supply chains. As a part of this commitment, Hill pledged to adopt minimum health and safety assessment standard, Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) and industry recognised PQQ, PAS 91.

Talking about the commitment, Michael Thomlinson said, “Working with the Constructionline Advisory Steering Group allows us to act as champions for positive change within the industry and to share best practice with our peers. We’re proud to be supporting a scheme that allows us to do that.”
