The difference between ‘Awarded’ and ‘Published’ on Market Intelligence ‘Awarded’: projects where the main contractor has confirmed that they have been awarded the contract. ‘Published’: projects that main contractors have reported as being in the tendering phase, indicating they are actively bidding for these opportunities. What happened in 2025 Q4 within the UK and Republic of Ireland construction market? 2025 Q4 Construction Market Report: financial boost sets the tone for strong 2026 activity Q4 showed a strong end to the year, with some of the highest results in 2025, second to Q1 2025! 2025 Q4 Published projects 804 projects were published in Q4 on Market Intelligence, more than Q3 (654 projects) and not too far off Q2 (849 projects). However, Q4 project value dominated with £165 billion worth being published! This mainly consisted of high value public sector opportunities for new build schools across London by the Department for Education. London topped the most number of projects published for the fourth quarter running, ending on 174 in Q4 at £143 billion. This was soon followed by the North West at 84 projects and then Scotland at 65. However, project value after London was greater in the West Midlands at £5 billion for fewer projects (44), followed by 49 projects in South & Mid Wales at £4.4 billion. What does this mean for the UK and Republic of Ireland construction market? With high-value projects being published, construction activity looks promising as we head into 2026! The Department for Education’s publication of tenders for New Build schools sets the tone for promising activity in the UK construction market in 2026, leading the way at £15.4 billion. New Builds dominate the top 3 projects, with a further £2m tender for a hospital in Crewe, Cheshire, and Student Accommodation in Bath at £120 million. 2025 Q4 projects Awards 44 fewer projects awarded in Q4 compared to Q3, but worth £800 million more, totalling £2.8 billion worth of awarded projects in Q4. This provides a hopeful outlook for construction activity in 2026… Awards by region Scotland leads the way for a 2nd quarter in a row at 33 projects in Q4, behind its 60 projects in Q3, but ahead of London by just 2 projects (31 in Q4, 29 in Q3). 32 project awards were in the North West, ahead of 12 published in Q3, followed by 13 in the West Midlands (11 in Q3). Despite Scotland and London topping the number of awarded projects, Manchester (Northern and North West regions) had the largest value tender at £300 million!
