The difference between the Common Assessment Standard PQQ and Constructionline’s BSA Assessments

As the construction industry moves towards a more unified way of certifying subcontractors and ensuring Building Safety Act compliance, main contractors are also expected to encourage partners to move towards building a safer future for all, by aligning to the Building Safety Act legislation and key industry certifications.

As a result, more main contractors are choosing to enhance their supply chain requirements to adhere to these important changes: this means requiring supply chain members to meet the Common Assessment Standard.

Why is the Common Assessment Standard being used?

Logo for "Common Assessment Standard," featuring a teal arc and bold grey text. As part of the new Building Safety Regime (BSR) and the Building Safety Act 2022 (BSA) & Building Regulations 2023, there is an enhanced requirement for all projects to demonstrate competency at both organisational and individual levels.

What is the Common Assessment Standard?

The Common Assessment Standard (CAS) was developed by Build UK in partnership with Constructionline, where it aims to streamline construction procurement processes with a unified set of questions for assessing suppliers. Now the preferred pre-qualification questionnaire for the construction industry as outlined in PPN 03/24, the Common Assessment Standard represents the minimum threshold subcontractors must meet when working on public sector projects exceeding £5.337m.

Common Assessment Standard and the New Section 7: Building Safety

Build UK has recently introduced additional competency-related questions in Section 7: Building Safety, of CAS Version 4. These questions apply to any organisation involved in activities that are covered by the Building Regulations 2010.

Constructionline’s Building Safety Act Assessments

While the new Building Safety section of CAS V4 is a step forward, many main contractors in the industry require additional project-focused information to fully address organisational competency. To bridge this gap, we’ve developed two BSA Assessments, provided to Gold and Platinum members at no additional cost:
