Social Value For Buyers

Supporting buyers’ social value goals.

Supporting buyers’ social value goals

Providing social value is now a key priority for many buyers, as clients are increasingly factoring in buyers’ efforts to provide added value to local communities when awarding contracts.

Since the Public Services (Social Value) Act (SVA) came into force in 2013, both public and private sector clients across all industries have come to realise the benefits social value can bring to communities and construction companies alike.

At Constructionline, we know you need to be able to show that social value is a priority throughout your supply chain when you’re applying for contracts, so we make it simple for you to find suppliers that are aligned with your social value strategy.

What is Social Value?

The UK Green Building Council (UKBC) categorises social value under three broad themes: jobs and economic growth; health, wellbeing and the environment; and strength of community.

What ‘social value’ means in practice is likely to change from one job to the next, as different clients will have different priorities when it comes to social value. For example, they might look for you to provide:

Training for local people in areas of high unemployment

  • Provide equal opportunities for minority groups
  • Provide good working conditions
  • Support their workers’ mental wellbeing
  • Engage with local communities
  • Are working to improve their sustainability
  • Are members of schemes like the Considerate Constructors Scheme

Finding socially conscious suppliers

We help you to ensure your suppliers meet your social value standards by:

  • Including dedicated social value questions to our pre-qualification questionnaire
  • Enabling you to search for suppliers based on their social value standards as well as their work categories, regions etc.
  • Contacting your suppliers on your behalf to prompt them to complete the social value question set, so you can ensure that your existing supplier base is making social value a priority.
