Deadline:  July 2023

Graham A Davey – Group Procurement Director

“I am very pleased that we now have a harmonised pre-qualification standard, recognised throughout the construction industry. The Common Assessment Standard (CAS) significantly reduces duplication and cost for our supply chain, and, in collaboration with the Recognised Assessment Bodies, means we have an enhanced level of visibility that will raise the bar for competence across the industry – benefitting all construction stakeholders”.

The Common Assessment Standard not only prequalifies you to work for VWUK but also several our industry peer group including Balfour Beatty, Bouygues UK, Costain, HS2, ISG, Keltbray, Kier, Mace, Osborne, Sir Robert McAlpine, Sisk, Skanska, Vinci, Wates amongst others.

Our Partnership with Constructionline

To consistently deliver excellent service and outstanding quality projects, we need to work effectively partnering with our supply chain and that includes our valued small and medium enterprises (SME’s). VW UK are a founder signature of the Common Assessment Standard (CAS) endorsed by Build UK. More information on this important standard can be found via the following link: Construction Pre-Qualification System – Build UK.

In essence CAS accreditation provides essential information for organisations to improve their procurement processes and ensure compliance via trusted accreditors. VWUK have partnered with Constructionline as our primary intended route to onboard our suppliers and help them through the CAS verification process. From April 2023 you will need to be verified to Constructions Gold/CAS, or by one of the other providers, that are accrediting to the Common Assessment Standard, to help support us in supply chain management and risk assessment. We will be allowing a 3 month ‘working towards’ period to ensure a smooth transition to full compliance from July 2023.

Recognised Assessment Bodies:

Provider Desktop: Site-Based Achilles, Building Confidence, Gold Building Confidence, Gold CHAS, CHAS Elite (CAS), CHAS Elite (CAS), Assured, Constructionline, Constructionline Gold, Constructionline Platinum, CQMS Safety-Scheme and Premium Safety-Scheme Elite.

  • Sub-Contractors with a total order value not exceeding £25k* or low risk (by default any order exceeding £25k value then Sub-Contractor must hold CAS Accreditation)

  • Designers, Consultants, Materials, Plant and Fleet suppliers
  • Public bodies, Statutory undertakers or utility companies

Frequently asked questions:

Why have VolkerWessels UK partnered with Constructionline?

We’ve partnered with Constructionline because we want to make the onboarding process as straight forward and cost effective as possible for our suppliers. Constructionline gives us and you a clear view of your accreditation status, so we can be sure that you’re ready to work with us at any time. Having reviewed other providers and our own provision we felt Constructionline offered us the best overall solution. Having worked with Constructionline for a number of years the majority of our supply chain are already accredited by them, and this made the move to Gold standard a relatively simple process. We have partnered with Constructionline to onboard our subcontractors and help them through the verification process.

What if I am already accredited with another CAS provider?

As part of our commitment to the CAS standard we do accept that you may choose or already be a member with another CAS provider and you can share this data with Constructionline without incurring an extra charge.

Why is it Important to remain approved (verified)?

Please note once you have paid your annual subscription to Constructionline or chosen CAS provider and submitted your pre-qualification questionnaire your work doesn’t stop there. You must ensure you nominate a responsible person to maintain your profile and ensure key information and documents (for example Insurance renewals) are regularly updated as otherwise you may quickly become unverified and this could mean that you miss out on valuable VWUK tender and project opportunities.

How do Volkerwessels UK assess the ‘exception’ companies?

The above exceptions are managed by an in-house pre-qualification process, if you fall into our exception bracket but hold a CAS accreditation or Constructionline Bronze or Silver accreditation, then that simplifies the process for VWUK and yourself, please make our procurement team aware of your accreditation and you will not need to complete our manual accreditation form.
